A user finally isolated the ChatGPT Windows app's months-old fuzzy/stale rendering and recent black sidebar issue to its GPU compositing path. After ruling out scaling, refresh rates, HAGS, Auto HDR, drivers and reinstalls — while Firefox and Edge rendered fine — launching the app with --disable-gpu-compositing made everything sharp immediately, verified via an A/B test on the same machine. The flag only affects this app, and the finding has been reported to OpenAI/Codex GitHub issues.
