Ex-NVIDIA engineer: US labs ignored global users, so the world runs on Chinese models

Reacting to a report on Chinese AI models surging globally, a former NVIDIA team member argues US frontier labs barely serve even American users — refusals, downtime, and struggles with usage-plan economics — let alone international ones. US open-weight offerings are weak: Nemotron isn't consumer-focused, Gemma is mediocre, and OpenAI's open model is unimpressive. The result: most of the world is adopting Chinese models because no one else offered them a better product.
