Geoffrey Hinton used a CNN interview to call for stronger government regulation of AI, arguing that industry standards alone are insufficient.
- He accused big AI labs of quietly opposing any regulation: "They say they do [want to be regulated], but any regulation you suggest they oppose."
- He wants AI oversight at least as strict as drug approval: "You can't just release a new drug without satisfying [regulators]."
