Anil Seth: we may never 'solve' consciousness, and conscious AI is likely an illusion

Neuroscientist Anil Seth published two essays in the Times of India, written during the Berggruen Institute meeting on consciousness. The first reviews progress on the 'hard problem' — neural correlates research (the cerebellum, despite holding 3/4 of neurons, is barely involved) and competing theories now being tested against each other. The second argues the 'conscious AI' impression is an illusion: fluent conversation doesn't imply genuine subjective experience.
