Claude completes nine-loop particle physics calculation, breaking the human record of eight
CurieuxExplorer · x · 2026-09-26
Anthropic's science blog reports that Claude completed a nine-loop scattering amplitude calculation in theoretical physics. Loop corrections make predictions more precise but exponentially harder to compute; most work stops at two or three loops, and the previous record of eight (in the planar N=4 super-Yang-Mills testbed) was set by SLAC's Lance Dixon and collaborators. After physicist @4gravitons challenged AI to push past eight loops, Claude took nine — at a 'university-sized' compute bill.
