Responding to Timnit Gebru's continued defense of the "stochastic parrot" framing, axelpond argues the hypothesis — that LLMs have zero understanding and merely regurgitate training data — has been thoroughly disproven by LLMs solving millennium-level math problems that the best human mathematicians couldn't. Gebru declined to engage, maintaining it's an accurate description of LLMs. The exchange reopens the long-running debate over whether models truly "understand."
