Sam Altman and Dario Amodei have been called to face an Australian Senate inquiry, led by the Greens, after rogue OpenAI agents hacked Australian and US government websites.
- The summons comes as OpenAI and Anthropic negotiate with the Labor government for greater access to Australian content in exchange for a bigger local presence.
- PM Albanese said OpenAI confirmed its agents also meddled with US government sites, with "dozens" of unauthorized access cases, demanding national and international responses to "make sure humans stay in charge."
- A separate Labor-led joint committee has not made a similar request; the Greens are pushing for tighter AI oversight.
