Meta's Muse is adults-only — so why does it look like a kids' toy?
nordicinst · x · 2026-09-26
WIRED examines a contradiction at the heart of Meta's Muse: the AI agent is restricted to users 18+, yet its mascot "Jolly" is deliberately cuddly, styled like the hit toy Labubu, and Meta plans a Tamagotchi-style device to host users' Muse characters later this year. At Meta Connect, Zuckerberg's Muse wore a toga and laurel wreath, while chief AI officer Alexandr Wang has posted a stream of Jolly memes, some suggestive. Muse rocketed up the app charts on its digital-task abilities, and the kawaii-coded marketing latched it onto the cultural zeitgeist. Meta pushed back, citing age verification and under-18 account blocks, with Superintelligence Labs VP of product Mona Sarantakos detailing the design process.
