Schmidhuber says modern AI should be renamed back to Cybernetics

AI pioneer Jürgen Schmidhuber argues that since Cybernetics was renamed "AI" by logic-programming experts in 1956, the field deserves renaming again: modern AI is built on neural nets and deep learning, closer to Cybernetics than to 1956-era symbolic AI — and "Cybernetics" simply sounds better than "Artificial Intelligence".
His quip rides on current US political discussion about renaming AI, rekindling the old symbolic-vs-connectionist debate.
