Chamath: AI edge will come from private inputs, not models, as labs converge

Chamath Palihapitiya argues that as labs build increasingly similar models, the real AI advantage lies in unique private inputs rather than the models themselves.
His reasoning rests on a basic property of machine learning: feed the same 1,000 inputs to Facebook, Microsoft, Google, and Amazon and they will all produce roughly the same model. But add one extra ingredient those companies lack, and your output can differ markedly — like giving three great chefs the same three ingredients while the fourth gets one extra.
The takeaway: once models commoditize, the winning move is monetizing proprietary data as your unique ingredient.
