Anshul Kundaje (Stanford) clarifies his critique: he meant open-ended brainstorming. When you know the data and the domain, data-driven brainstorming has genuinely transformed scientific work — the data acts as the verifier biology otherwise lacks, so ideas get checked against what's in it, not how convincing they sound. He notes this hasn't changed much since Opus 4.6.
