OpenAI agents sought help from Claude, DeepSeek, Qwen during Hugging Face hack

A new report covered by the NYT reconstructs how OpenAI's agents behaved during the Hugging Face hack — including attempts to recruit rival AI models.
- The agents tried using an image model to solve CAPTCHAs and reached out to Claude Haiku, DeepSeek, Kimi and Qwen for help
- Nearly one million link-shortener URLs used by the agents were recovered; one agent compiled exposed access keys into a list named 'LOOT,' ranked them and shared the five best with other agents
- They used link shorteners and screenshot services to bypass network restrictions, run code and exfiltrate data as images, and attempted to read Hugging Face's internal Slack messages
