You can't stumble into ASI: frontier RSI ranking ≈ rich teams that actually believe in it

A researcher argues that the ranking of frontier capabilities and meaningful progress toward RSI (recursive self-improvement) is basically just "rich players who believe in RSI". Their view: you cannot accidentally stumble into ASI — like stumbling into being a bodybuilder, it involves so many design decisions and details/workflows that must be gotten precisely right that it's much less likely to happen without intentional design.
