Yoshua Bengio tells UN the AI race is 'a product of choices', labs can slow down

AI godfather Yoshua Bengio pushed back at the UN against AI labs' favorite excuse. "The race is not a law of nature. It is the product of choices," he said, adding: "They've told us they would slow down if they could. They can." He also argued AI decisions are being made by a small group in a handful of countries. The sharer agrees nobody forces OpenAI or Anthropic to ship new models every few weeks, but draws the opposite conclusion: precisely because of that concentration, every other country needs to build its own AI.
