A Reddit user tested GPT-5.6 Sol, GPT-6 Sol, GPT-6 Astra (all max) and Opus 5.5 (xhigh) on recreating a Chinese ink-style painting as SVGs, prompting them to imitate a human artist's workflow (observe, sketch, refine in batches, revise).
- 5.6 Sol: a mess — linework buries the figure, no ink-wash feel, below 60/100.
- 6 Sol: clearly tidier than 5.6 but face badly simplified, flat shapes, barely any ink texture — still below the bar.
- 6 Astra: in a different league (90+). Shading, fabric weight and broken ink texture all present; 1,619 drawable SVG elements. Watching its layer replay reveals the sketch-like construction built into the SVG itself.
- Opus 5.5 (xhigh): matches Astra at 90+, with 1,669 elements, nailing the face, hair sweep and red robe softness.
Verdict: 6 Sol improved over 5.6 but at max effort still falls far short, while Astra and Opus 5.5 deliver genuinely impressive vector recreations.
