Vercel's first State of Agent Skills report shows the skills.sh registry—launched three months after Anthropic introduced Agent Skills in October 2025—reached over 1 million skills and nearly 280 million installs in just seven months.
- A skill gives generic agents the job-specific judgment and instructions that models lack, and can be as simple as a plain-language file, making skills far faster to create than conventional software.
- Drawing on aggregate registry data, the report maps the first million skills: what people teach agents, what gets installed, and where value is heading.
- For comparison, GitHub took 27 months to reach one million repositories; skills.sh did it in seven.
