AI could codify tacit organizational knowledge, worth up to one US GDP, paper says

In "The Value of Codifying Organizational Knowledge," Martin Beraja and Eduard Talamàs argue that mature firms' productivity rests largely on tacit, experience-accumulated knowledge that new firms cannot easily inherit — but AI can codify it without humans articulating it. They define the value as the output gain from new firms being "born old," show it depends on two observable firm-life-cycle statistics (relative size and lifespan of mature firms), and that a modest AI system learning from successive cohorts can capture it. US data suggest potential gains of up to one GDP.
