Shopify redesigns its admin with AI Sidekick front and center

Shopify's design team has rolled out a major redesign of its core admin interface: simplified navigation, less visual complexity, and the AI assistant Sidekick placed front and center to help merchants get work done faster.
Designer MSchwaibold frames the project as a rebuttal to the "craft vs AI" narrative — the team polished the traditional UI while simultaneously building AI-first interaction patterns, arguing the work is all of it.
