Anthropic Commits $11.6B to Akamai for CPU Cloud Capacity, Deal Could Hit $20B

Anthropic signed a seven-year, $11.6 billion cloud capacity deal with Akamai that could grow to roughly $20 billion, with warrants potentially giving Anthropic up to 5% of Akamai.
The surprise: the agreement covers CPU workloads, not GPUs—frontier AI needs vast amounts of ordinary compute to run the systems around its models, and Anthropic is now locking in that capacity for billions.
