At The Information's AI summit, Google DeepMind chief Koray Kavukcuoglu said the company now trusts AI agents to autonomously conduct experiments, analyze results, and propose hypotheses in the model-training process under human supervision — something agents couldn't do six months ago. Models aren't training themselves yet, he said, but the company is getting closer, a signal AI safety researcher Haydn Belfield called an important window into Google's thinking on recursive improvement.
