Waymo: 82% Fewer Injury Crashes Than Humans Across 271 Million Driverless Miles

Waymo's latest self-reported safety data covers 271 million driverless miles across Atlanta, Austin, Phoenix, Los Angeles and the SF Bay Area through end of June — 50 million more than its previous report — with 82% fewer injury-causing crashes than human drivers. That mileage equals over 300 human lifetimes of driving at 850,000 miles per lifetime.
The Verge notes Waymo hopes the data wins over policymakers still debating autonomous vehicle safety, though some experts say it fails to capture non-crash traffic disruptions caused by its robotaxis.
