The figure traces to a 2015 blog by Joel Hoomans citing "various internet sources" and a 2013 book that lacks the number. HBR, CNBC and other media repeat it unsourced; the only related study is a flawed Cornell food study (227 decisions/day). The 35k total was never measured.
