Open Weights Beat Black-Box APIs on Security: Sandboxing Is an Engineering Problem

Arguing for open-weight models, the author says plausible model-level risks deserve attention but lack evidence of material real-world harm; any model misbehaves if sandboxing and permissions are wrong, as the Hugging Face incident showed. That's a tractable engineering problem regardless of model origin — and open weights offer more transparency and control than any black-box API, especially as enterprises embed proprietary know-how into custom models.
