A recap of xAI's 3-year run: Colossus 1 + 2 total roughly 670k GPUs, plus Grok Imagine, Voice, Build and Grok 4.7 — models, agents, apps and compute under one roof. Elon Musk replied with three points:
- Keep accelerating: xAI is only 3 years old vs 6 and 10 for Anthropic and OpenAI; if the second derivative stays strong, it reaches pole position in about 6 months.
- Diminishing intelligence: beyond the caliber needed for a class of tasks, extra intelligence is pointless — you wouldn't put Newton-level intelligence in a toaster.
- Hardware is hard: bringing massive compute online rapidly is incredibly difficult, and SpaceX has shown exceptional ability at it.
