Perplexity launches Rust-based Fast Search: 95% of results in 230ms, Shopify adopts it

Perplexity's Search API adds Fast Search, running on Photon — a Rust retrieval and ranking service built by a small team with hundreds of agents, returning 95% of results in under 230ms. Shopify's Mikhail Parakhin says Shopify benchmarks all search APIs and Perplexity has become their main one on merit, adding Rust seems more in-distribution for LLMs.
