Politico reports the White House has asked OpenAI and Anthropic to withhold new models from UK testers until the US conducts its own review.
Quoting the story, former AISI-affiliated researcher Keegan McBride reiterates his earlier argument that any UK AI strategy relying on AISI's survival beyond two years is unserious: UK-led AI safety discourse has never been popular in Washington (Bletchley disputes over China reshaped the US delegation), the Biden-era diffusion rule signaled US rule-writing dominance, the US counterpart CAISI remains underfunded, and the current administration prioritizes the American tech industry while framing Brussels as an adversary.
