Per the New York Times, Google has launched Project Suncatcher, an initiative to deploy machine learning infrastructure in space, betting that orbital solar power and thermal conditions can serve future large-scale AI compute needs. It marks one of the first concrete moves by a major tech company toward space-based data centers for AI training.
