China's first AI-generated long-form drama 'Hou Xi You Ji' premiered in Hunan TV's prime-time slot on Aug 31. The 60-episode series was shot with zero cameras—100% of video generation done by ByteDance's Seedance—and topped 150M views on Mango TV within a week.
Director Li Dongshen (of 'Hexi Corridor' fame) shifted from 'camera logic' to 'single-frame logic': define each frame's characters and scenes, let the model animate changes. A 100-person team rebuilt the pipeline, folding costume, set, and lighting work into AIGC production; 98% of members could create directly.
Costs collapsed: one action scene took 10 days and 100K RMB vs. an estimated 3-4M RMB for live action. The show is also the first beneficiary of China's 'review-while-airing' policy, and went from concept to broadcast in six months.
