Meta's Muse has topped the US App Store, and Shopify jumped 13% on the integration announcement, igniting the Personal Agent category.
The author argues these products have found a zero-barrier C-end AI app form: users don't care about the underlying model and will use it even without model switching. Personal AI's three core needs: understanding you, proactively reaching out, and giving useful context-based suggestions.
Using China-launched TodayAI as an example:
- Cloud computer: always-on, invisible to the user, data stays put
- Connectors: one-click context import from other services; overseas players get MCP from Google et al., harder in China
- Context-driven proactive actions: e.g. Apple Health-based daily advice, plus tracking for learning, finances, family matters
Heavy productivity use is rare for most people — they mainly want AI to remember things and make arrangements. Context connectors take days to accumulate before the assistant gets genuinely useful.
