DeckWerk: an open-source slide editor vibe-coded in ~100 hours to replace Keynote
vincesitzmann · x · 2026-09-24
Researcher Vince Sitzmann has open-sourced DeckWerk, a multi-platform slide editor with strong video support, real-time collaboration, and agent support. He built it entirely by vibe coding, spending about 100 hours of his own weekend-and-night time plus many agent hours.
The motivation: he left Linux for Mac because no slide editor was good enough, yet Keynote in 2026 still can't crop videos. Inspired by Omarchy Linux and DHH, he built his own and is back on Linux. He has used it in roughly 7 talks, remote and in-person, without failures, and considers it ready for prime time — installable from source via GitHub, installers coming soon.
