NVIDIA, DeepMind open AI-predicted protein structures for 2,800+ viruses
nvidia · x · 2026-09-24
NVIDIA has partnered with Google DeepMind, EMBL-EBI and research partners to openly release AI-predicted 3D structures of protein complexes for more than 2,800 viruses via the AlphaFold Database, aiming to give scientists a head start against future outbreaks.
- Structures were inferred with AlphaFold2, scaled to thousands of viral proteomes using NVIDIA's BioNeMo Inference Runtime.
- The post argues COVID-19 vaccine speed relied on decades of prior coronavirus research — a head start the next pandemic may not offer.
- NVIDIA is also open-sourcing the BioNeMo Structure Prediction Pipeline.
