NVIDIA, DeepMind and EMBL-EBI Open 3D Structures for 2,800+ Viral Proteomes
nordicinst · x · 2026-09-24
NVIDIA has joined Google DeepMind and EMBL-EBI to release predicted 3D structures of protein complexes from more than 2,800 viruses, freely available to all scientists via the AlphaFold Database.
The rationale: COVID-19 vaccines were fast because decades of prior coronavirus research existed — the next pandemic may not offer that head start. Structures were inferred with AlphaFold2, scaled to thousands of viral proteomes using NVIDIA BioNemo Inference Runtime. NVIDIA is also open-sourcing its BioNeMo Structure Prediction Pipeline.
