A growing trend: new AI models debut in coding/agent products first, with the companies' main chat apps as an afterthought. Grok 4.6 landed in Grok Build and Cursor but was absent from the Grok website and app; GPT-6 Sol is available in Codex and ChatGPT Work yet still can't be selected in regular ChatGPT chat.
The author argues that being able to open a chat, ask questions and explore how a model responds—without assigning a task—is core to a model launch, and it feels unfinished without it.
