A Times exclusive reports that senior British officials privately believe US AI companies deliberately overstate the risks of their technology for their own financial benefit, with one official saying the companies have a vested interest in exaggerating their tech's power.
The report came after Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham told the UN General Assembly that AI must be reined in under "a single set of global principles and standards," calling it potentially transformative for the economy, education and healthcare but also a source of disruption. The poster called the officials' take "embarrassingly out of touch."
