Jev open-source clones hit 25ms local, 50x faster than official; author runs 77-day trading backtest for $0.09

The author benchmarked Jev's open-source clones against the official model on a MacBook with 20 Chinese tickets: Laya (native MLX, 13.4ms median on M3 Max) at 25ms, djev at 509ms, official Jev at 1.3s, AnyJev near 4s — Laya roughly 50x faster. The laya-mlx repo has already hit 6.1k stars.
The thread also details a full quantitative backtest workflow:
- Three months of daily investment reports fed one-per-day to Jev 1.13 via OpenRouter, which outputs buy/sell/hold per asset with probabilities and confidence
- A downstream program rebalances using real Binance hourly candles and computes net asset value
- 77 days, 3 strategies (momentum, contrarian, macro), 5 assets (BTC/ETH/SPY/QQQ/XAU), 1155 decisions — total cost $0.09, 87 seconds runtime, 1.1s per call, zero failures
- Visualization: a design mockup handed to Ant's newly open-sourced Ling-3.0-flash-VL (free on OpenRouter), which built a dynamic dashboard from the image alone; Playwright captured 390 frames compressed into a 13-second video
Honest results: momentum +6.71%, underperforming equal-weight buy-and-hold at +13.2%; the other two strategies returned −1.0% and −10.3%.
