Korea's utility asked Samsung and SK Hynix to prepay ~$18B in power bills; both said no

Korea's power utility asked Samsung and SK Hynix to prepay ₩25T ($18B), roughly five years of power bills, to fund the grid for their chip clusters. Both refused, saying they can't be sure the memory supercycle lasts five years.
The irony: Samsung's customers are asking for 10-year supply deals (per Daishin), and SK Hynix's own CEO says demand runs ahead of supply "even beyond 2030." Memory makers happily sell long contracts — they just don't want to sign one.
The poster reads this as a signal about where cycle risk now sits, and will watch Micron's Sep 30 earnings and $22B in customer deposits and commitments hitting balance sheets this quarter.
