A rare Bundibugyo (BDBV) strain of Ebola has been spreading in eastern DR Congo since May, killing roughly half of nearly 8,000 confirmed cases, with no confirmed vaccine available. Global health organizations including CEPI, WHO AFRO, and INRB are now using Claude to accelerate the response: community health workers record fevers, recoveries, and deaths in notebooks and report daily via WhatsApp, and Claude helps compress the chain from field notes to lab confirmations to situation reports — a process that used to keep teams working late into the night. Faster, more accurate contact mapping means exposed people can be found and protected before falling ill.
