Anthropic's 950-agent wet lab discovery mocked for touting unvalidated enzyme gene-editing system

Anthropic announced its first wet lab discovery: roughly 950 agents spent 21 hours and 210 million tokens searching data, eventually spotting a repeating DNA pattern next to a strange-looking reverse transcriptase (RT) gene.
But the announcement drew mockery: Matty Kirsh noted that Anthropic's new San Francisco wet lab "validated absolutely nothing" about the claimed enzyme gene-editing system before it was tweeted out — though they did show the found DNA actually makes RNA.
The episode highlights the gap between AI research hype and actual experimental validation.
