Dario claims Claude-led gene editing discovery, scientists push back on the framing

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei announced a "Claude-led" discovery of a molecular machine suspected to be a new gene editing mechanism: the life sciences team suggested a broad research area, then Claude read the literature and genome data, surfaced an interesting finding, and proposed verification experiments the team carried out.
The framing drew immediate pushback: @NaderLikeLadder argued "the work was done mostly by Claude" is simply not true — it was done by top life science researchers using every tool available, and pretending AI is alive scares people and diminishes talent, making young people doubt skill-building and workers anxious about jobs.
