ESA and Mistral sign letter of intent for sovereign European space AI

- The European Space Agency and Mistral signed a Letter of Intent in Paris (Sept 16) between DG Josef Aschbacher and CEO Arthur Mensch to deepen AI cooperation.
- They will combine Mistral's AI models and infrastructure with ESA's engineering and operations to build secure, trusted European AI for Earth observation data processing, mission design, engineering analysis and operational decision-making.
- The deal is framed as strengthening Europe's technological leadership and sovereign AI capabilities in space.
