An X user offers an alternative read on the GPT-6 Sol vs Opus 5.5 matchup: GPT-5.6 Terra saw little usage vs Luna, Sol and Astra, so rather than ship a Terra refresh and risk dismissal, OpenAI killed the name and rebranded it GPT-6 Sol, pitching cost savings over capability. They predict Astra Minor will replace Sol as the Opus 5.5 competitor, and that 6.1 may prune back to Luna/Sol/Astra. Unverified speculation.
