Anthropic Says Claude Discovered Unknown Enzyme System in Phage DNA

Anthropic announced that Claude discovered a previously unknown enzyme system hidden in bacteriophage DNA, next to a long array of repeating DNA resembling CRISPR. Its function is unknown, but the few known systems sharing its features can cut, copy, and paste DNA—historically the kind of discovery that led to revolutions like CRISPR. Much more work remains.
