Former FHI researcher Anders Sandberg recalls joining the Future of Humanity Institute on Jan 1, 2006 to work on human enhancement. After repeated arguments, Nick Bostrom convinced him existential risk mattered. The early team explored neuroethics and cognitive bias, laid groundwork for whole-brain emulation, and slowly noticed the AI risk chapter of a book kept growing — a precursor to Superintelligence.
