In a follow-up to the duopoly thread, herbiebradley argues Meta and xAI are not 12 months behind based on published results: much of the data that makes frontier models good is now purchasable from third-party vendors, and AI R&D automation makes fast-following easier. He also contends Grok 4.7 or Muse Spark 1.3 are solidly better than Opus 4.1/GPT-5, especially at coding, while dschwarz26 questions the 12-month framing from a year ago's leaderboard.
