French writer Thélyson Orélien faces a dual scandal:
- AI-generated book: A book that won critical praise is widely believed to be AI-written, despite his denials. Users ran his recent articles through AI-detection tool Pangram and found them AI-generated, unlike his older work; comments on his Facebook had already flagged the AI-like style before the story broke.
- Plagiarism record: A debunk thread lists 10 suspicious articles, showing he long lifted English-language sources—Pablo Saborío, Alvin Toffler's Future Shock, and others—translating them (often clumsily) into French and passing them off as original work on RFI/Mondoblog since 2013.
- He reportedly struggles to string sentences together in interviews, fueling the controversy now roiling French media.
