Anthropic engineer Aymeric Roucher notes that Opus 5.5 has completely dropped the em-dash, using it even less than humans' already low baseline.
He half-jokes that "in 6 months we can start using it again" — the em-dash had become a widely cited fingerprint of AI-generated text, and this shift suggests such detection heuristics are losing their signal.
