Anthropic says Claude autonomously discovered a previously uncharacterized enzyme system with CRISPR-like DNA repeats while mining genomic databases: 950 Claude agents worked 21 hours, analyzed 200,000+ reverse transcriptases, and surfaced a candidate its biologists then validated experimentally. The system, ART, resembles other programmable biological systems that manipulate genetic information; its function is still under study. This is the first result from Anthropic's new molecular biology lab, where Claude generates hypotheses and human scientists run all lab work.
