Texas Permit Freeze Stalls 2,842-Acre, 1.33GW Data Center Project Eyed by Anthropic

Governor Abbott's statewide data center permitting freeze has put a proposed 2,842-acre Cedar Creek campus by Pacifico Energy and BlackChamber Partners on hold. The project has a pending TCEQ air registration for on-site natural gas generation of up to 1.33 GW, with Anthropic reported in lease discussions (unconfirmed). Citing his expert interview with Lightfield Energy, Ben Bajarin notes that securing compute and power isn't enough — permitting and the ability to actually build are the deeper bottleneck.
