Epidemic SIR model applied to LLM dependence finds it outlives the conditions that created it
bgoncalves · x · 2026-09-23
Epidemic modeler bgoncalves (data4sci) applied the classic SIR compartmental framework (unexposed → casual → dependent) to human dependence on LLMs, using the same equations used for real infections. The model returned an uncomfortable "trap-door" result that surprised even the author: LLM dependence outlives the conditions that created it, persisting even after the initial environment that drove adoption disappears. A full derivation thread accompanies the post.
