A new paper by Rob Fairlie and Lynn Wu finds youth summer unemployment in 2026 was no different from prior years. AI exposure showed no effect on youth unemployment, while remote-work exposure did — pushing back on the popular narrative that AI is displacing young workers' first jobs.
